Yes. Since 2004, the Bar Council has allowed members of the public to instruct a barrister directly for advice, document drafting, and court representation. This is called Direct Access. A Direct Access family barrister can advise you, prepare paperwork, and represent you at every hearing stage without a solicitor in between.
Representation at a one hour hearing is typically £850 to £1,250 + VAT. A two hour hearing is typically £1,250 to £1,600 + VAT. A full day hearing is typically £1,500 to £2,500 + VAT. Yes. We offer Klarna as a payment option, which means you can spread the cost of your legal fees into monthly payments rather than paying the full amount upfront.
We aim to keep continuity of counsel wherever possible. The same barrister will normally represent you throughout your case. If your barrister is unavailable on a listed date, we will let you know early and find a suitable alternative. Diary availability is checked before any quote is agreed.
The First Hearing Dispute Resolution Appointment (FHDRA) is usually the first hearing in a child arrangements case. The court will consider safeguarding information from CAFCASS, identify the issues, explore whether agreement can be reached, and give directions for the next steps. Your barrister will prepare a position statement and represent you at the hearing.
