Ian is an experienced barrister whose particular expertise lies in property and and estate matters. He accepts instructions in a broad range of areas, representing both tenants and landlords, and has extensive experience in both the County Court and the High Court as well as in various tribunals.

Ian is also the co-author of several highly successful practitioner texts books used by solicitors in housing matters and industrial disease claims. He is happy to travel nationally for the right cases and approximately half of his court practice is based in the courts of London.

Background

Ian is, first and foremost, a trial lawyer and has a particular reputation in this aspect of his work as a tenacious opponent who always fights his client’s corner hard. Ian has an established Fast Track, Multi Track and High Court practice frequently dealing with matters worth in excess of several million pounds as well as more modest cases involving only a few thousands but which are equally important to those clients.

Ian acts for both claimants and defendants. He is fully authorised to accept direct access work and is further authorised to conduct litigation as well.

Ian has a very busy property law practice and accepts instructions in relation to a wide range of litigation in this area. He is able to advise and represent both tenants and landlords in relation to housing matters such as disrepair, dilapidations and offers extensive experience of possession claims, repossession and other mortgage-related proceedings. In addition to his core property law practice, Ian accepts instructions to advise and represent clients in relation to disputes arising out of building and construction disputes and has appeared in the TCC on numerous occasions. 

A very experienced trial and appeals barrister, Ian holds a busy fast track and multi-track practice in both the County Court and High Court ranging from £10,000 to £10,0000. Recent cases include acting and advising on insurance claims where the insurer has rejected the claims alleging fraud and / or material non-disclosure or misleading information on a claim of £10,000,000, 2 successful Appeals from Housing Disrepair claims, acting in a contested wills case involving a claim for a pre-existing beneficial interest in the family property.
