Do you accept legal aid?

It is not possible to use Legal Aid funding to instruct a direct access barrister. If you wish to rely on Legal Aid to fund your case, you will need to instruct a solicitor who has a contract with the Legal Aid Agency. If you want to find out whether you qualify for legal aid, you can check your eligibility on the official government website at gov.uk/legal-aid.

Do you offer no-win-no-fee representation?

We do not offer no-win-no-fee arrangements as a standard service. If you are concerned about the cost of legal representation, speak to our team about what options may be available to you.

Can I use legal expenses insurance (LEI)?

Unfortunately we are not able to work with clients who hold legal expenses insurance (LEI). LEI providers typically require advance payment terms that do not align with how we operate, and the rates they offer to barristers are significantly lower than our standard fees. If you have LEI cover and wish to use it, you will need to instruct a solicitor through your insurer's panel.

Can I spread the cost of my barrister fees?

Yes. We offer Klarna as a payment option, which means you can spread the cost of your legal fees into monthly payments rather than paying the full amount upfront. If the total fee feels like a barrier to getting the representation you need, Klarna may allow you to get started without having to find the full sum immediately. We also offer a secure online payment platform for single payments if you prefer to pay in full.

What happens if my case takes longer than expected?

Once a quote is agreed, the price does not change unless the scope of the work changes. If your hearing overruns significantly, or if additional work is required beyond what was originally agreed, we will discuss any revised costs with you before proceeding.

How quickly can I get a quote?

In most cases we can provide a quote within one working day of receiving your enquiry. If you have a court hearing coming up soon, please let us know when you get in touch and we will prioritise your enquiry.

Direct Access Clerk

Barrister Connect provides direct access to barristers serving every court and tribunal in England and Wales. We are expanding our team in Taunton and looking for a motivated, people-focused professional to help match members of the public with the right legal experts.

This is a fast-paced, target-driven sales role, and we are honest about that. The people who thrive here find that energising rather than daunting. The legal knowledge comes with the job. The personal qualities are what matter most.

What you will be doing

• Fielding leads by telephone, email and live chat from members of the public seeking legal advice or representation
• Logging each lead in HubSpot, our CRM
• Triaging leads to gauge viability, then either accepting and progressing them to quote and conversion, or disqualifying and signposting to more appropriate services
• Recording case details, confirming barrister availability and moving viable enquiries through to quote
• Staying available to clients throughout the quoting and conversion process to answer queries and help achieve conversion
• Collaborating with internal and external partners to support growth and raise brand awareness

What we are looking for

• Someone genuinely good with people, who listens carefully and cares about helping whoever is on the other end of the phone
• An ambitious, quick learner with strong communication skills
• An empathetic problem-solver who can accurately assess a client's legal needs
• Someone who stays calm when it matters and finds a target-driven environment energising
• A genuine desire to improve access to justice
• A background in customer service, sales, or any people-facing work, including recent graduates

• Experience working in a fast-paced, consumer-facing sales team

• Excellent customer service skills

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• High attention to detail and commitment to quality

• The ability to prioritise, plan and organise in a busy environment

• Competent IT skills, primarily Microsoft Office
