Richard is a very experienced property and commercial barrister who acts for clients in a wide range of cases. He is approachable and efficient and works closely with clients to achieve the best result in their case. He has dealt with everything from multi-million pound claims relating to oil contracts to disputes about domestic building projects. 

Richard accepts instructions from solicitors, direct access clients and foreign lawyers.  He gives advice in conference (and is happy to meet with clients in person in Highgate or central London or remotely), in writing, and represents clients in courts all over England and Wales. Richard has experience of all levels of courts, from County Courts to the Court of Appeal where he has appeared on numerous occasions. He is also able to represent clients in mediation or arbitration cases. He can act on very short notice if necessary and quickly cuts through a case to understand the core elements of the dispute. His advice is pragmatic and commercially sound.

Background

Richard has a lot of experience in acting for clients in all types of property disputes, from landlord and tenant disputes to cases regarding the ownership of land. He is also able to deal with property disputes arising out of relationship breakdown and contentious probate cases. He acts in cases regarding the beneficial ownership of land under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996. 

He acted in the case of Amanda Williams v Kishan Parmar [2021] UKUT 244 (LC) and others in relation to rent repayment orders and is familiar with the law in this area. 

Richard is often instructed in relation to construction disputes on large and small developments. Recent cases include a million pound claim arising out of the building of a luxury hotel in rural England and a claim relating to a restaurant development in Bethnal Green. He also represents clients in relation to domestic building projects.
