Sheila began her career at Littleton Chambers, a leading set in employment law. Since her call in 2002, she has practised as both a chambers barrister and in-house counsel, before returning to independent practice. She has represented both claimants and respondents, giving her a balanced understanding of employment disputes.
Her work includes several high-profile cases. She acted in Macken v BNP Paribas, where a tribunal ordered an equal pay audit, a landmark ruling that was widely reported. She also succeeded in cases such as Dehais v BNP Paribas, Mulumba v Partners Group, and Ms A v Lord Ranger & Others, frequently instructed under direct access and often facing well-resourced legal teams.
In addition to tribunal advocacy, Sheila is a qualified mediator accredited in commercial, workplace and family mediation. She has trained professionals globally in mediation and conflict management.
Sheila is praised for being approachable, sensitive and practical, and for her ability to explain legal concepts clearly and guide clients through what are often highly stressful situations. She is fluent in Portuguese and Gujarati.
Approach
Sheila is committed to supporting clients from the very beginning of a dispute, often before a claim is filed. She explains the law in plain English, sets out realistic options, and works with clients to resolve issues through negotiation or mediation wherever possible. When litigation is required, she combines clear strategy with determined advocacy.
